Welcome to Meatless Miami

Meatless Miami is all about spreading the gospel about how easy it is to find delicious, gourmet vegetarian cuisine in South Florida. There are loads of exceptional, progressive restaurants that cater to vegetarian and vegan palates, and MM intends to list as many of them as possible. (We also love guest reviewers so be in touch if you'd like to make us hip to a new veggie eatery - info in the sidebar).

NEWS: I'm now blogging weekly on the New Times' Short Order food blog about veg-related everything! Please check out my "Meatless In Miami" columns there and leave feedback.

Price rating scale, based on a meal for one person without drinks:
$ under $10
$$ under $20

Notice too that as of this point there are very few "$$$" restaurants listed yet. This is because yet another benefit of eating vegetarian is that the dishes are cheaper than when you order meat so you can eat at nicer restaurants more often!

Sheba

Sheba is one of the only Ethiopian restaurants in Miami but thankfully it's top-notch and completely veggie-friendly. Beautifully decorated with a gift shop no less, and options so you can go the customary route and eat with your hands around a traditional mesob (straw tabletop), or you can grab a fork and dine at a table. The vegetarian options are pretty much all vegan (we specifically asked and they use vegetable oil in their cooking) and rightfully priced significantly lower than their meat dishes. We recommend the gomen wat which does collard greens right, and the Ethiopian Tej Honey Wine which is sumptuously sweet but expensive by the glass so splurge for the whole bottle! Sheba also features live music some weekend nights, and there are a few enticing-looking veg items on the lunch menu we haven't tried yet but if dinner is any indication of quality we'll make the effort!

Wonderful!!! I'm so glad Sheba is up here now.

The gomen wat is delicious. Also try the atakilt wat (stew of cabbage, potatoes, carrots and green beans) with mesir wat (spiced lentils) and kik alicha (spiced split peas)...absolutely divine.

Enjoy!!! :)

The jazz music is the best I've heard locally. Its truly surprisingly good, and yet its not too obtrusive as to disturb your dinner and socializing.

This is bar none, my favorite restaurant in South Florida. I have introduced several non-veggies to this place, who join me in raving about how good the good/ service/ ambiance is. Highly recommended for everyone
